Caulfield, Saturday 28/5

Conditions - Soft

Race 1

1- DEXELATION

3- STARRY LEGEND

4- ZORROS DREAM

DEXELATION is an old favourite of ours here at FGB, but that is only because he is as tough and as honest as they come. He is coming all the way over from SA for this and drops in grade out of Group level racing. Has previous success at this trip (5:3-0-0) and the wetter the better for him. Wants a soft track. May end up with STARRY LEGEND on top here depending on how the conditions of the track are Saturday. He comes off a last start 3rd at this grade, all career wins have come at this trip and he will give himself every chance on the speed. The small field here will suit the running style of ZORROS LEGEND, who finished off really well last time here at the track. Should be fitter for having had that run and a jump out since.

Race 2

11- MCKEON

5- PROUD CONQUEST

1- JAMARRA

Anything could potentially happen in this 2yo race. Not heaps of exposed form and a mix of any form around. Lots of talk that potentially MCKEON looks a very smart type and might be set for a big debut here. That talent was shown in an impressive recent trial win. Comes in well at the weights and looks well placed. PROUD CONQUEST was a debut winner at the beginning of the month. His trial form prior was pretty sharp and another who looks a good type. This is harder than the debut race though. JAMARRA is the most experienced runner of this field. Already has 2 career wins and has placed at both other starts here at the track.

Race 3

5- HOPON HARRY

9- NAVAL SEAL

10- OCEANA BLUE

SA visitor HOPON HARRY has done some sharp work this prep with out having found a win. He has chased home and placed behind Group level runners and chased home the highly fancied Illation last start at listed level only missing by 1.1L. This is a big drop in class from those recent runs. NAVAL SEAL broke through for a victory in his last start at Ballarat. He has shown good consistency early in his career and finally gets off a heavy track so we might see a bit more of what he is capable of today. OCEANA BLUE could be a big improver off her first start where she found a lot of bad luck, should be fitter off that run and the 1600m trip looks a lot more suitable.

Race 4

4- JEZOULENKO (EW/VALUE OF DAY)

13- GENTILITY

14- SPEED LOVER

JEZOULENKO looks the good value runner of the day here. She was good in similar races to this at the back end of her last prep which also included a win here. Her trial prior to resuming the day was also very impressive. She can give this a good shake at decent odds (Currently $15/$4.60). GENTILITY was spelled straight after her debut win back in January. She looks a good type and will likely be better for being more mature now. She showed good early speed in the debut win and has an ideal jockey booking for a run like that again here. SPEED LOVER will need to bring her best here today stepping up,in grade now. She is yet to miss a placing in her lightly raced career and is going to come in real light at the weights after the apprentice claim so watch for her to be finishing off strongly.

Race 5

3- SELBUROSE

1- FOREVER FREE

6- DANCE TO DUBAI

Unbelievably open race this. At time of writing the race fave is $7 vs the field. SELBUROSE is one who usually improves after she has had a 1st up run, so think she can really figure in this and especially on a better surface than what she ran around on last time. Likes to race on speed and has drawn well form that type of run. FOREVER FREE was very good 1st up beating some handy types and now drops back in grade after the 2nd up run. Rates highly in this field and the soft surface will suit. DANCE TO DUBAI is definitely going to need some luck early from the wide barrier but usually jumps really well from the barriers, so if she can get away fast, she may find herself at the front of the pack and making the race her own. Is 2 wins from 2 starts when 2nd up.

Race 6

3- SACRED PALACE

2- GALENUS

4- SIG POSITANO

Forgiving SACRED PALACE for his last start run where he pulled up lame and had some trouble in the later stages of the run. His record here at the track is good and has never missed the placings over this trip. After a freshen up and a drop in grade, if he brings his best he should prove hard to get past. Think this is the best chance for Tassie visitor GALENUS to win a race here. He faded late when fresh after leading through the race. He should be fitter for having had that run and again is drawn to get a favourable run on the speed. SIG POSITANO only just missed last start when he was well in the market and looked to have some ideal conditions. He rates well again here and is 4:2-1-0 when 3rd up. Only small knock is the wider barrier.

Race 7

4- BERMADEZ

2- GRANDSLAM

7- WITCHACHAR STAR

GRANDSLAM rates very highly and looks again a very good chance here at his best. Only problem with that is he can be inconsistent and especially if it is either soft or heavy. Unplaced in wet conditions, so it’s a big watch to see what the track is rated at for tomorrow. Goes on top if it’s dry enough. BERMADEZ is the one I’ll play if the conditions are soft or some rain is around. Loves a soft track (7:5-0-0) and has a super record overall. He is untested at this trip, but draws a nice barrier her so should get a conservative run and see the trip out fine. WITCHACHAR STAR probably produce his career best performance last start and is in super form having won 2 in a row and looks for 3 now. Has the fitness for this trip and is adaptable in all conditions.

Race 8

3- HOSIER (BEST OF DAY)

8- SIR DAVY

14- VISINARI

Tough to look past HOSIER based on what he has shown since arriving in Australia. He has only not won once in his 6 Australian starts and the miss he was pulled out of the race. He runs well over the mile and is a big get on if the track is in soft condition (5 starts on the soft for 5 wins). SIR DAVY comes up in grade for this after finding some serious form this prep, he is going for 4 wins straight now and 3 over the 1600m. Has won 2/2 over the 1600m and runs well in the expected conditions. Looks the major threat to the fave. VISINARI is another who is on a winning streak and is stepping up in grade. He is lightly raced and looks like he has some big upside going forwards.

Race 9

3- ZOIST

14- D’AGUILAR

9- AGREEABLE

ZOIST has been running well at a good level this prep over in SA. He is 9:6-0-1 over this trip and is very adaptable in what ever track conditions he will face today. He is drawn wide but will go back anyway. The apprentice claim will really help late as well. D’AGUILAR is the current race fave and resumes today. He has a strong record when 1st up (3:2-0-1) the expected soft conditions suit but another who may need luck as he is drawn wide as well. AGREEABLE is a proven 2nd up performer and is another one who represents good EW value here.
