R1/2- IMPERIAL SEAL
Has been a long time maiden runner now, but this looks the best chance he has had to break through for a 1st win. He back up after a solid run last week were he did a lot wrong but managed to lead the field up by a big margin. He was caught in the last 100m by a runner called ANOTHER PONZI who looks to have some good upside but there was a decent gap to 3rd. A run similar to that here coming back from the 1200m to the 1100m, gives him a huge chance.
R4/8- WALLY WEST (BEST OF DAY)
WALLY WEST’s form last prep back in 2022, was in maidens that rate much stronger than what he faces here today. He did find a winnable race last start when 1st up at Murray Bridge as a short priced fave, but he had a horror run in the straight when being held up for a run multiple times. Once he found clear running space, he reeled off some fast closing sectionals to nearly steal the race. Im expecting Hurdle will look to keep him a bit safer in this race from barrier 4 and give him every chance to produce the big run late again with a bit more luck.
R6/3- SALUTE THE STARS
SALUTE THE STARS will find this race much easier than his last couple of assignments at Morphettville. His last start was the Listed Pt Adelaide Cup, while he finished back in the field, Im happy to forgive him as he was caught 3 and 4 wide through the trip, and that race was run at a brutal pace. He still got through the line ok, but is much better suited back to the 2100m and at BM58 level. There maps to be good speed in this, so expecting from barrier 4, he can just sit off that speed and get a comfortable run.
R7/10- HATEECH (EW/VALUE OF DAY)
This is an open race with good odds on offer. I’m forgiving the last start of HATEECH when she was up in grade at Morphettville. She was caught out wide early and given no real chance to find a position in running before she was pulled up. The vets cleared her of any issues so think its the wide run she had to endure which cost. 2 runs back she won a very similar race to this with Rochelle Milnes riding and she again rides here today claiming 3kgs which brings HATEECH down to only 54.5kgs. She maps well again and we know she finds her best form deeper into a prep. I’m happy to have something small on to find out if last start was just a bad day.
