Best Bets

R6/1- CHARM STONE (BEST OF DAY)

  • Resumed impressively last start at Caulfield when fighting late to defeat SKIRT THE LAW. CHARM STONE has looked like she has returned in super order and looks a Group level runner who stands out in this field. She is drawn wider out of barrier 9, but due to the fact that majority of the runners with early speed are drawn around her, it potentially gives her a cart run across and she can settle midfield, off the rail which looks a really nice map.

R7/7- BERKLEY SQUARE

  • 3rd up today and rising to a suitable staying trip up at the 2040m looks both like big positives for him here today. The run last start at Caulfield was full of merit after he had to work early from the wide barrier, the tempo was then slow but he has hit the line nicely and closed it off well suggesting he is ready for a longer trip. He will jump from barrier 5 which should see him get a nice run, he has won over this track/trip previously and on that day he was positive and settled in the 1-1 so expecting he won’t get too far back today.

R9/6- POUNDING (EW/VALUE OF DAY)

  • This is a very open race and a lot of the favoured runners has a sticky race map to deal with to find position. POUNDING is drawn well from barrier 7 and should get a nice run there from midfield. He is 2nd up here today and rising in trip after finishing off nicely in the PB Lawrence. He also has a very good record here at The Valley which is a good positive. Has a 3:2-0-0 record at this track/trip so looking well placed. Will be having a saver bet on TUVALU as well, if he had have drawn a lower barrier I would expect he would have been a lot shorter in the market.

R10/10- HENNESSY LAD

  • A last start winner here at The Valley in nice fashion. He is rising in grade now but if he can repeaT the last start performance, that was a good enough rating to win at this grade. He gets in well at the weights with 54kgs after Carleen Hefel takes off 1.5kgs. The question mark is the wider barrier, he will need to find a position early from barrier 11 but if the track is wet and he gets off the rail, he potentially will be in the better lanes coming down the straight.
