Mornington, Saturday 24/9
Conditions - Soft
Race 1
2- WEE NESSY
4- LOVETTA
5- FLORES DREAMING
WEE NESSY looks hard to beat here at the short price. She has placed at Listed level against good horses and won her maiden recently at a short price well. The small field should help her. LOVETTA won her maiden and then was spelled right away. She has been trialling well leading into this return run. This is tougher than the last start for FLORES DREAMING but he has good early speed and barrier 1, potentially gets the dream run.
Race 2
2- DEFIANT DIVA (BEST OF DAY)
3- DIVINE DIOSA
6- MISSY LONGPORT
DEFIANT DIVA is going really well this prep and again looks well placed here. She is at her ideal distance and won’t mind the soft ground. She brings stronger recent form lines into this race and looks hard to hold out. DIVINE DIOSA hasn’t looked her best this prep, but she has previously started to improve in preps around her 3rd up run which is where she is at today, still needs to improve a bit to figure here. MISSY LONGPORT maps to find the lead and give herself every chance, she should find the run easily from barrier 1 with her speed and she is a winner her at the track previously.
Race 3
2- HOLSTER
6- HOPKINS
8- CARBONETTI
HOLSTER was a strong last start winner and comes up, n grade now. The way he won easily at Sandown suggests that he will appreciate rising up to the 2000m now. He should appreciate a wet track so feel he will be hard to run down. Like the fact the HOPKINS has won over the 2000m trip and has a good record at this trip while others in the field aren’t yet exposed over the 2000m trip. He will have speed on which could set him up perfectly to run them down late. CARBONETTI looks likely to take up the lead from barrier 3. Should lob in a strong position but not sure he will want a wet track.
Race 4
3- DIRECT (VALUE OF DAY)
6- NAJEM SUHAIL
2- ALONG THE RIVER
DIRECT doesn’t have the strongest winning % but he is a very consistent type. He has a good 1st up record (4:0-3-1) and hasn’t missed a placing over this trip from 8 starts. He is clearly talented and if he can navigate the wide barrier, he will be around the mark. NAJEM SUHAIL is an interesting runner, comes from South Africa and had some solid performances back there, one at Group level. Willing to take him on at that short price just to see more of him at this stage. ALONG THE RIVER deserved the last start win after a pair of 2nd placings. He looks good value as this isn’t any harder that the last start run, and he may be in the box late if they run this at a sharp speed early.
Race 5
4- NARVAEZ
2- SEINERS EXPRESS
6- TOBAYSURE
NARVAEZ was a last start winner here at the track and will be every chance pushing forwards and taking control of this race. If the others give the lead up to him too easily here, he will be hard to catch. SEINERS EXPRESS is here 2nd up today and rising to a distance that he will likely appreciate. Has won 2nd up previously, 2:0-0-2 over this trip and won’t mind a wet track. One to consider. TOBAYSURE is only lightly raced but has proven to be consistent through his career. Rising in trip now which he won’t mind as he has won at 1600m before, question mark here today is how he will go from the wider barrier.
Race 6
2- APRES LA MER
11- PATRIKA GOLD
5- LONDON POINT
APRES LA MER loves racing here at her home track. She has a 3:2-0-1 record at the track and draws for a soft run. Has options from barrier 2 and should give a good sight. PATRIKA GOLD resumes having won on debut before contesting a stronger race next and fading. She has been given more time now so could be a natural improver. Maps as the likely leader so looks a chance to get run of the race up front. LONDON POINT is making her Aus debut coming across from NZ. She has won both career starts and could stack up here. NZ runner have a good record of running well when fresh.
Race 7
6- SARACEN KNIGHT
9- KING OF THE CASTLE
4- TIGERTIGER
SARACEN KNIGHT is fit and has been running against strong competition of late. His form lines are strong coming into this. Proven at the trip and won’t mind wet ground, expecting that with the fitness edge he will be hard to beat. Expecting KING OF THE CASTLE will take natural improvement out of his Australian debut run at Flemington. He was coming off a long spell and is a bit of an unknown. Should definitely be respected. TIGERTIGER resumes here at his home track. He is a strong stayer and had a successful last prep. Usually takes 1 or 2 races to get going in a prep, but at his best is capable and is definitely proven at the trip.
Race 8
4- INVINCIBLE JET
11- DANAUSTAR
18- HESKET
Expect INVINCIBLE JET to push forwards and lead here. He has been close twice this prep but gets a good chance to improve that. Is he is beginning to peak in fitness and he should find better ground than he found last start. DANAUSTAR has been good this prep and very competitive in similar grade races. Can push forwards and find a position, but draws the car park Which won’t help. HESKET should be an improver now he is 2nd up. Usually take a few runs in preps to find his best form. Only knock is he probably wants to be on a dryer track.
