Morphettville, Saturday, 10/9
Conditions - Soft
Race 1
2- ANPHINA
5- MORE REWARD
3- MERCHANT BOSS
ANPHINA is a Victorian visitor who is visiting here today for what looks like a bit of a kill job. She has spent the first part of her career competing in good level 2yo races at Flemington. If she has come back improved now as a 3yo, she should be too good for these. MORE REWARD has placed behind some handy runners in her past 2 starts at this level. Looks the main threat to the fave. Racing on the inner Parks track today, can favour leaders and MERCHANT BOSS looks the most likely to lead this field, he may get a soft run and be in the ideal position through the run.
Race 2
7- RODEO
2- OKAY TO PAY
8- DARING MOVE
RODEO is resuming here today and has good 1st up form (3:2-0-0) and also bring in some super form from his last prep into this race. In her only run last prep, she beat Calla Dream who was 2nd in the Lighting Stakes recently, and she was competitive in a strong race at Moonee Valley. If she is here at her best she will be the one they need to beat. OKAY TO PAY is another who is a strong 1st up performer having won both of her 2 career 1st up runs. She has the early speed to put her in a prominent position on this track and will be well served by the 3kg claiming apprentice. DARING MOVE is drawn for the best run of the race from barrier 3 here. Resuming today and has won fresh.
Race 3
12- IMBIBE
6- SCONAERO
2- COMMANDER MEROO
IMBIBE looked green in her her debut run which was a really strong Listed level race which has had some strong form come out of the race including Bistro and See You In Heaven. She has had more time to mature now and has the early speed to be prominent. SCONAERO comes from a very smart stable and potentially will find this an easier maiden than what he has competed in back in Victoria. The stable have been patient with him and a lot of gear changes suggest that they won’t be far off finding his break through. COMMANDER MEROO is the current race fave, he has placed in both of his career starts but has been caught wide in all runs, he may be talented but is again drawn a wide barrier which may hurt.
Race 4
1- ICHIBANSAN
2- PRINCE JOFRA
6- TAKE ME NORTH
ICHIBANSAN had some issues in his last start so I’m willing to forgive the run. His form prior to that ran was good in a stronger level races. He goes well over this trip perhaps has a slight class edge over the field, just needs to handle the extra weight. PRINCE JOFRA has been in super from, having won 2 starts prior to his last run in a very similar race to this where he was 3rd. This is easier today and he will find suitable track conditions. TAKE ME NORTH is super honest. He has only missed the placings twice in his 9 career starts. A wide barrier isn’t ideal, but he is rising in trip for the first time which he should appreciate.
Race 5
8- PALANI (BEST OF DAY)
1- TERRITORY TITAN
6- MONTEPULCIANO
Expecting PALANI should appreciate rising in trip here today. He was 3rd when resuming on a heavy track so should appreciate a better surface here. He was 2nd here in SA at Listed level last prep and has won a recent trial, his best form has these covered. TERRITORY TITAN drops in grade and has a super record over this track and distance (6:2-1-2). The wide barrier isn’t ideal but he has enough early speed that he should be able to get across them. Weight is the only other issue, even with an apprentice claim. MINTEPULCIANO doesn’t win out of turn, but he is consistent and has won previously over this distance. He was 2nd to Headphones who came out and won on Wednesday so that form has been franked now.
Race 6
8- PARISIENNE MONDE
2- LAFARGUE
7- PRETENTIOUS LASS
Willing to take on the current fave LAFARGUE. His form in recent races is probably superior, but he tends not to run well 1st up and he has struggled on rain effected tracks which is what he is expected to come up against. Getting much better value for PARISIENNE MONDE who was 3rd when resuming here over this track/distance. Drawn much better today, so expect she will get a much better run here today and has had good early support which is encouraging. PRETENTIOUS LASS broke through for a well deserved maiden win in her last start, she is in good form and hasn’t done much wrong to date yet.
Race 7
5- SIXBYSIXTYTHREE **SCRATCHED**
1- LORD VLADIVOSTOK
8- HIDDEN LEGEND
If SIXBYSIXTYTHREE opts to run here vs a race on Friday at Swan Hill, he looks super suited to the parks track. He has good early speed so should be forwards and an apprentice claim will help him late. His form from the previous 2 races stacks up strongly. LORD VLADIVOSTOCK has a class edge over these, but he has to lug a huge 64kg weight which won’t help. He is drawn perfectly to utilise speed from barrier 2, the only question is the weight. He is one to follow out of this race with his 2nd up form. HIDDEN LEGEND presented in the straight in his last start, but was run over late. He will carry 7kg less here today which should give him a much better chance late if he manages to present again in the straight.
Race 8
8- EYES NEVER LIE
3- MARACOURT
7- ENCHANTINGLY
EYES NEVER LIE has a super record here boasting a (3:1-0-2) record over this track/distance. She has been running consistently at this level and should get a good run with speed drawn out wide. Potentially tracks some of the wide runners and can pass them late. MARACOURT is only lightly raced and has a good overall record winning 3 of his 5 career starts. She gets ideal track conditions today, but may need to be more positive from barrier 1 and here at the parks. ENCHANTINGLY was fave in his last start where he failed to figure. He was badly checked in the straight and didn’t finish off after that. A forgivable run and he should be an improver on that effort.
Race 9
4- SEA WITNESS (EW/VALUE OF DAY)
11- SUPER SHARP
8- MANAGE THE CYCLE
Went with SEA WITNESS Each Way in his last start where he did place for us. His running pattern is well suited to this track. Expect him to push forwards and make his luck. 2nd up and fitter now will help, and he still did beat a handle field in a trial recently. SUPER SHARP had a solid 1st prep. He was 2nd in a sharp 2yo race on debut and then accounted for a maiden level race easily. Has had more time to mature now, potentially returns here as an improved product. MANAGE THE CYCLE has been close in his previous 2 starts over this trip going under by less than 1L each time. Drawn in 2 and has a claiming apprentice, he potentially finds more luck here today and breaks through.
