Morphettville, Saturday, 14/5

Conditions - Soft

Race 1

12- MISS DANIEL

1- BROTHERS SHADOW

2- KOLOKAR

MISS DANIEL resumes here today after having had a nice first prep including a win when fresh. She maps really well for a run here over the 1000m on the parks track as it can favour runners who are drawn inside and have good early speed. BROTHERS SHADOW maps very much the same as MISS DANIEL and may actually be the early leader through this. He is also resuming and has won fresh before. The query for him is the extra weight he will carry vs MISS DANIEL. KOLOKAR is the stable mate of MISS DANIEL and was an impressive winner when on debut and has showed good signs in his lightly raced career, if they go to hard up front he could be well set up to grab them late.

Race 2

15- SKILLED BUNCH

5- AIGUILETTE

9- RIALTOR

Feel this will be a pretty open race, mostly due to a lot of the higher rated runners who have the early speed have drawn out wide which can be a killer on the parks. SKILLED BUNCH represents good value here now she is 2nd up. She has good form when she is 2nd up (4:3-0-0). Don’t mind where she is drawn as this potentially will be run at a fast pace and she can hopefully settle in behind that speed and catch them late. AIGUILETTE is the current race fave and has put in 2 good performances in his last 2 runs which makes you think he is capable in something like this but the only knock I have on him today is the rise to the 1400m where he hasn’t placed yet. RIALTOR looks as if he may get the run of the race from an inside barrier and on the speed. She has won here on the parks previously but this is a rise in grade now which is the query.

Race 3

3- TWIN STARS (BEST OF DAY)

2- KINGS CONSORT

6- HOPE AT HAND

TWIN STARS looks one of the better placed runners here today. He was coming home strongly last start to finish 2nd behind gun filly See You In Heaven. Rising here to 1400m is really suitable. KINGS CONSORT was really good when winning a nice race at Caulfield last start. He is clearly talented but the only concern I have for him is the wide barrier here on the parks track. HOPE AT HAND has been running well in some handy races here at Morphettville and was 3rd behind the fave here last run. She is a danger if she finds space late and 1400m should suit.

Race 4

13- MUNSTER

10- NONAME LANE

7- EXTRA TIME

Tough race here, willing to give MUNSTER a chance even though he is up in class from what he has been contesting in. He drops back down in trip which looks much more suitable and he will carry 54kgs which is a big drop in weight from anything he has carried of late. NONAME LANE resumes here today, has previous winning form fresh and he has never missed the quinella at the track, only query is where he will land from the wide barrier. EXTRA TIME could be an improver here now he is fitter, the run 2 starts back was a bit sharp for him and he should find this easier.

Race 5

5- HOWL

11- RUSHAWAY LAD

3- METEORITE

HOWL was very unlucky not to win when he resumed at Oakbank, he looked like he had plenty to give but struggled to find a run late. Comes back to Morphettville where he has a good record over this track/distance (3:2-0-1). Like the fact that P Gatt hops back on as the 2 have had 3 wins together. RUSHAWAY LAD has been very consistent in his lightly raced career to date, he draws well and will be light in the weights after the apprentice claim. METEORITE ran well when resuming in a good race and is 2nd up here today. Has won 2/4 starts 2nd up.

Race 6

2- THRILL KILL (VALUE OF DAY)

4- MORTY

11- FOX D’OR

THRILL KILL looks close to a win based on what he has produced in his past 4 starts placing in them all. Think he will handle the rise to the 1800m fine and for a country horse, he has strong form here at the track (7:2-2-1). MORTY is a tough competitor who won over this track/distance a few starts back and draws a soft barrier so should find a good run tucked in behind leaders. Rarely runs a bad race and looks good value. FOX D’OR broke a long time win drought recently, winning 2 in a row in quick succession and both well. He showed in this runs that the 1800m shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Race 7

1- ILLATION

2- UMGAWA

4- HOPNON HARRY

ILLATION is at a super low price, but it’s hard to look past him as the winner here after the way he won his last start here at the track. He looks to have huge upside and will probably just tick this one off and move on to bigger things. UMGAWA is the other runner who maybe has the class to match the fave. He won a pretty handy race 2 starts back and has listed and group level form this prep. HOPON HARRY is a chance to make some improvement here today. He has been close in some handy races this prep and could have beaten Mac N Cheese when first up if he had some luck. He is consistent and could be a good place bet.

Race 8

1- ALEGRON

5- HARLEYMOVEN

6- DETONATOR JACK

The Group 1 of todays meeting and looks a pretty handy field also. ALEGRON has been in some very good form this prep and is a proven stayer. His run 2 back in The ATC Derby was huge behind Hitotsu and then he won easily next start. He will likely be back in the field but Morphettville is a big track with a long straight, so he should get the space to find a run late. HARLEYMOVEN looks the best of the local hopes today. He was good last start to finish 2nd, but the 2 wins prior to that we’re explosive. This looks like it has been his main target for a while now so the stable will have him in peak condition and if he gets a soft run, we know he has the fast finish. DETONATOR JACK is only very lightly raced, but has shown that he will be capable to see this trip out. He is from a stable who have a strong record in Derby’s and placing their horses in the right race.

Race 9

1- DAMASCUS MOMENT

2- JAAMINT

4- TANJA’S DREAM

DAMASCUS MOMENT resumes from a small break, last time we saw her she won a race in a higher grade than this today but this is at metro level now. She maps really well from her barrier to be up on the speed and will be helped by a claim from an in form apprentice. JAAMINT resumes from a spell. She has competed well in this grade previously but it usually takes a run or 2 before she starts to find her peak fitness. If she is here at her best she is a big chance. TANJA’S DREAM drops in grade from her last start last start where she probably found that field a little too hot and she was always going to be up against it from the wide barrier. Comes back to a race similar to what she won a couple starts back and draws much better here today to find a good run at an EW price.
