Morphettville, Saturday, 15/4
Conditions - Soft
Race 1
2- HEURISTIC
4- DEBATING
1- HARLEY ‘N’ ROSE
HEURISTIC looks to bring in the strongest form lines of any of the runners in this race today. He doesnt have a win in his career yet but only one runner in this field does. He has been close to the winners when placing in both starts this prep, maps to get a soft run and looks the one to beat. DEBATING makes his race debut here today, he opened as the race fave, that was likely based on the talent he showed in his 2 recent trials. Feel he is a small risk as he is making his debut here, but looks a chance if he can produce his trial form here. HARLEY ‘N’ ROSE is the only runner who has a race win, he did really accelerate when asked for in the straight last start, should take benefit out of that run now he is 2nd up and maps to lead the race.
Race 2
5- SOUS LES NUAGES
1- SEBONNA
6- DIXIE WHISTLER
A tough looking staying race on paper, think there is a lot of one paced types here. SOUS LES NUAGES should be fitter now coming off a good run at Bendigo where he was 4th but not very far away from the winner. He is proven at this trip and will be well suited if the track becomes very wet. SEBONNA has had a short break and resumes now having last run in The Adelaide Cup last month. He ran a strong race at Group level prior to that. He is the highest rated runner in the field but the knock on him here today is how he will handle a heavy weight on a wet track, but he is a strong type. DIXIE WHISTLER is on the quick backup having competed in last weeks Onkaparinga Cup at Oakbank. She ran a bold race at the front of the field and now that VERIMLI has been scratched, she maps to get a very easy run up on the speed and may be able to run away with the race.
Race 3
1- CELSIUS STAR
11- LAKEHURST
8- STORM VOYAGER
CELSIUS STAR was an impressive winner last start at Cranbourne, he is rising in grade today but this is a ‘No metro level win’ race so the field isn’t overly strong. He maps to be in a prominent position in running and if he runs up to the last start run he should prove too strong here. LAKEHURST was 2nd in a very similar race to this recently and would only need to run up to that again here to be competitive. He does have to handle a wider barrier but should be around the mark again. STORM VOYAGER drops back down in grade from his last start run at Murray Bridge. His form prior to that was consistent and he gets in well at the weights. He is a small query on a wet track which is the question, but wouldn’t surprise at big odds.
Race 4
1- PRINCESS DUHALLOW
2- REMEDIES
5- STRETAN ANGEL
A listed level race for the 2YO fillies here today. PRINCESS DUHALLOW was super last time we saw her at the races she was a winner down the Flemington straight at listed level. That was a high level 2YO race and she has had a freshen up since then and has won a trial leading up to the race, the stable has been going well with their 2YOs this season. REMEDIES has been competitive at Group level in Sydney recently. She is the clear danger and these 2 at the top of the market look hard to beat. STRETAN ANGEL ran a very big race on debut a fortnight ago, she will take benefit out of that race and looks the best chance of the local starters.
Race 5
2- PRAIRIE FLOWER
9- FLORAL OASIS
6- ALOTAFUN
PRARIE FLOWER stuck on well in the listed Manihi Stakes last start, she comes back to a BM68 level and should find this much easier than the last run. She is very consistent and will run a good race here, but don’t think she wants it to get too wet. FLORAL OASIS had a lot of support when making her debut for the new stable at Balaklava. She goes up in trip here which looks as though it should suit her and she will handle a wet track, don’t be surprised to see her run a good race at a price. ALOTAFUN was slightly disappointing last start when going around as favourite. Previous to that she won in impressive fashion at Strathalbyn, she can bounce back here.
Race 6
1- CHICAGO STORM
10- NOBLE MAGNATE
3- SECRET WAR
CHICAGO STORM has been in hot form this prep winning 2/4 starts and running 2nd in the other 2. He gets some weight relief after Sheridan Tomlinson claims 3kgs, the big positive for him in this race is that he will handle a wet track if the rain comes. NOBLE MAGNATE looked as if he peaked on his run when resuming, he will take benefit out of that race now and expecting he will be more competitive back down in grade and with a much better barrier. SECRET WAR wouldn’t surprise at good odds. He is 1st up and has both a good record 1st up as well as over the trip, he should lead them up and be competitive, but would be more confident if he had a dry track to work with.
Race 7
1- YURI ROYALE (EW/VALUE OF DAY)
11- KILLIAKO
6- SILENT SURRENTE
YURI ROYALE looks ready for a win now he gets to 3rd up into the prep. He is up to the 1600m where he has won 3 times previously and he is taking a big step back down in grade, he has a big weight but has carried big weights to win before. KILLIAKO is the current race fave, she is only very lightly raced but has looked as if she would appreciate the rise in trip here today. Ran an impressive race at Caulfield last prep when she was 3rd up, she is at that same point now in this prep here today. SILENT SURRENTE was a winner in a very similar race to this last month, she has a good race map from barrier 4 and is in well at the weights, expect she can run well here again in similar conditions.
Race 8
3- PEARL ADIOS
6- SAILORS BOOK
1- DREAM HOUR
PEARL ADIOS was very impressive last start when winning a similar race to this and against many of the same runners he meets again here today. The most impressive part of his win was how he hit the line over the 1600m trip, he definitely looked to have more to give as he crossed the line so coming up to the 1800m looks a big positive. There is a case to be made that SAILORS BOOK should have finished a lot closer to PEARL ADIOS when finishing 2nd to him last start. He copped a huge check in the straight that did take a lot of his momentum, but feel PEARL ADIOS would have won a lot easier over this trip. Still feel SAILORS BOOK will be again competitive here with more luck and should get a soft run on speed. DREAM HOUR has been met with some strong early market support since they were opened. He hit the line really strongly last week over the 1600m trip, so up to 1800m is a positive for his chances.
Race 9
3- PARTY PRINCESS
4- TASS
9- ARUGAMAMA
PARTY PRINCESS was huge last start when she was finishing off strongest in The Clare Lindop Stakes over the 1600m to only go down by half a head to a smart looking Filly. PARTY PRINCESS looks like she has a lot of upside yet and has found some serious form this prep. She gets up to the 1800m which suits and is every chance to be finishing this off strongly. TASS is only very lightly raced, but she does look an Oaks class filly who will appreciate the 1800m. She finds herself in an ugly wide barrier, but has good early speed, so if she can get across without much trouble, she should be in a super position. ARUGAMAMA is the stable mate of the race fave, she hit the line just as strongly in The Clare Lindop and expect she again wont be far away with clear running space.
Race 10
2- RIVER RIBBLE (BEST OF DAY)
1- SHIRSHOV
14- WAKANJEJA
RIVER RIBBLE looks really well placed for this race today. The stable have scratched him for a race at Cranbourne to come here instead. He is going to appreciate the expected wet ground and should be able to push forwards from barrier 2 and be very prominent. He should find this much easier than his last few runs and looks hard to beat. SHIRSHOV has been running well since joining the new stable, he has won 2 in a row now, does get right up in the weights after those last few runs and has a wide barrier, but is proven on wet ground and may find ideal conditions which will help him. WAKANJEJA is 3rd up now and gets in very well at the weights. She will be back in the field and may need some luck, but she does have a very good turn of foot so if she finds space she can produce a big run and the light weight will help with that as well.
