Morphettville, Saturday, 2/9

Conditions - SOFT

Race 1

1- AIR ASSAULT

3- HUGGLE TIME

2- ESECUTORE

AIR ASSAULT closed out his last prep winning at Group 3 level. His first prep was full of races in strong competition so he rates really well in this BM64 now. Has some weight to carry but has some extra class. HUGGLE TIME was met with strong market support when on debut at Murray Bridge, and duly saluted. He is again being well backed here and looks set to jump as fave. Every chance he can repeat the performance. ESECUTORE broke through to win his maiden last start at Murray Bridge. There has been winning form come from that race and it might stack up well going forwards as a form reference.

Race 2

7- EPISODIC

11- SIR PANAMA

1- BULLS ON PARADE

EPISODIC is an EX Chris Waller runner who makes his debut for a new stable here today. She is well bred and you would imagine well educated. She has also showed good talent at trials since arriving here in SA, expecting she wins a race at some stage here in SA given the talent she looks to have. SIR PANAMA showed some good signs in his first prep when competing in strong level races for this grade. Wouldn’t surprise at odds here. BULLS ON PARADE looks the best of the debutants and has been trialling well. Look for market support around him which may be a good indicator of where he is at.

Race 3

3- HOPON HARRY (EW/VALUE OF THE DAY)

2- HE’S OUR BONNEVAL

4- EXALTED FIRE

Victorian visitor HE’S OUR BONNEVAL has been competing in stronger level races in both NSW and Victoria in his last few runs and this looks the easiest field he has contested in some time. But I’m keener to have a small play on HOPON HARRY EW as he appears over the odds in my opinion. He hasn’t shown a lot in his first 2 runs this prep but that isn’t uncommon for him and it is usually 3rd up into a prep where he begins to hit his straps. His 3rd up record is 3:2-1-0 and up to the 1600m is suitable now. Expect he can improve here today. EXALTED FIRE is going well having won 3 of his last 4 and has won 4 over the 1600m trip, light in at the weights after the apprentice claim and is in strong form.

Race 4

1- SILENT DON

4- DEEL BLASTER

2- EXALTED RUTH

SILENT DON continues to run well and has won 3 of his last 5 starts he was also a winner up in grade last start over this exact track/trip set up. He will come up in weight given he drops back down a few pegs in grade now but he should get a similar run to his last few and has been in super form, expect another good hit out here. DEEL BLASTER will appreciate the rise in trip today and had no real luck from a wide draw last start out on the parks track. Expecting he will improve off of that run for this today. EXALTED RUTH is a consistent type over these staying trips and wouldn’t surprise after having had a freshen up.

Race 5

9- BOOGNISH (BEST OF THE DAY)

3- MISO

4- PARTY PRINCESS

BOOGNISH has had 2 really good runs in her last couple, both up significantly in grade. She was 3rd in the Listed Lightning before running 5th in the Group3 Behemoth Stakes. This is much easier for her today and if she can hold that from from the Black type races she will be hard to beat. MISO resumes here today and has a super record when 1st up (2:2-0-0) and maps as the likely leader so should get a good run. It’s a stiffer test than some of the races he has competed in previously but if he can get a soft run up the front he could run away with it. PARTY PRINCESS also resumes here today, in my opinion she is the best horse in this race from a talent point of view but I’m not sure 1st up over the 1200m from a wide barrier is the ideal set up. But I would be keen to follow her wherever she goes next and when up in trip.

Race 6

1- SEMILLION

4- SWEETENED

3- RICH GINA

It’s very interesting to see the Hawkes team bring a runner to SA, but it does look a nice race for them to see where SEMILLION is at. He is clearly talented, he was a Listed & Group 3 winner as a 2 year old before he lost his way a little. The stable has since had him gelded and this is the first time we see him since the operation which may have helped sharpen him up. He has had 2 nice trials at Flemington leading into this and he maps to get a sweet run up on speed. If he is at his best here he will prove hard to beat. SWEETEND has put in 2 good runs since she joined her new stable with a win and a 2nd. Both runs have been over this trip and she is in well at the weights here. May need luck from barrier 4 but she is going nicely. RICH GINA is another runner who will get back and need some luck, but she has a super record over this trip (3:3-0-0) and 2 of those over this track/trip. If the gaps open up late, expect to see her finishing off very strongly.

Race 7

8- SIXTEEN REASONS

4- JAAZEB

3- SAVILLE

SIXTEEN REASONS has found her career best form since she won her maiden at Gawler 3 starts back. She ran a big race in the Lightning Stakes before going under by a short margin last start as fave. She hit the line hard last time out and this race has a hot tempo which should set her up nicely to get over the top of them late. If she gets clear running late, her best is good enough. JAAZEB is very hit and miss but if he is at his best today, expect he will go close. He is 3rd up today and both career wins have come at this point in a prep. SAVILLE is in good form and was close in a similar race to this last start. He will also be well set up to run on late if the tempo is hot up the front as expected.

Race 8

7- MORE SUGAR

9- DANCING STREAM

2- TEXAN WINDSTORM

Giving MORE SUGAR one more chance, she has gotten very far back in her last couple and hit the line hard, both were big efforts. She has a lot of talent and can produce a big finish so if she can settle more handy today, she should be able to find clear running air in the middle of the track and wont need to do as much work as those previous runs. DANCING STREAM produced a very good run last start when she went across to a midweek race at Sandown, running into the placings. She is another runner who usually gets back and hits the line hard. She should be suited on this track and wouldn’t surprise at big odds. TEXAN WINDSTORM drops slightly down in grade from his last start. With some of the more fancied runners mapped to be out the back of the field, he can potentially lead them up from a low barrier and if given it easy enough, he may run away with this race.

Race 9

3- ARUGAMAMA

1- ICE SYMPHONY

9- JILLADORA

ARUGAMAMA resumes here today and is a previous 1st up winner so expect she can run well fresh. She was contesting stronger races at the end of her last prep so kicking off in a BM64 looks like a good start point for her. She should be handy enough from barrier 1 and should be a big chance. ICE SYMPHONY has drawn a sticky barrier and will need to get away clean to find a position, but if he can settle handy and not get caught out wide, his chances will greatly improve. His form recently has been in stronger races and this looks suitable, the wide barrier and sticky race map are the only knocks. JILLADORA is a last start winner and defeated the handy SIXTEEN REASONS last time out. She can run a race here but gets no favours from the wide barrier so probably needs luck in running.
