Morphettville, Saturday, 24/6

Conditions - SOFT

Race 1

13- VALENTINA CHARM

4- COOL THE JETS

10- ANDAMOOKA

VALENTINA CHARM had some very good market support when she resumed recently at Balaklava. She ran 2nd but looks an improver now 2nd up and rising to the 1200m. She gets a 2kg claim from Sophie Logan which will bring her down to carry a very light 53.5kgs. COOL THE JETS is another runner who is 2nd up here today, he was 2nd when resuming and should be around the mark again if he can handle the wide barrier. ANDAMOOKA is another David Jolly runner who was well supported in the market when resuming a couple weeks ago. Might have a tricky map if she goes back from the inside barrier, but with some luck you would expect to see her finishing off strongly.

Race 2

6- OUROBOROS

14- TE PANI

9- DESERT DANCING

This is an open 2YO level race with a good mix of form coming from everywhere. Victorian visitor OUROBOROS looks ready to win 1st up here off the back of some very good trials recently. He is drawn well in barrier 6 and has showed good early speed so expecting he can find a nice forward position in running. Think TE PANI has been very close in some stronger races and represents some good value here. 2 starts back she competed in a Group3 2YO race and was only 1.5L behind HEURISTIC the winner. That race has gone on to have some good form come from it. DESERT DANCING was well supported on debut to run 3rd that day. She should have taken some benefit out of having had that debut run now and looks every chance to be an improver here.

Race 3

1- SOLAR BLAST

2- BALLON D’OR

6- FLYING EMMY

Tough to knock the recent form of SOLAR BLAST this prep who has won 2 in a row now and was 2nd in the other run he has had this prep. His last start win at Murray Bridge was a huge effort against a well respected runner. I actually think he should get a better run here today from a more favourable barrier and rising to the 1500m should really suit. BALLON D’OR looks the major danger to the fave in this and is dropping in grade here today which may help her find winning for again. She has a 4kg weight advantage on SOLAR BLAST and has options from barrier 1. Visitor FLYING EMMY comes into this race off the back of breaking her maiden at Bendigo. Looks for some wet ground for her today, she looked to appreciate the heavy track in that win.

Race 4

1- RIALTOR

2- DYERVILLE

5- ORBITAL EXPRESS

RIALTOR doesnt know how to run a bad race and rates highly at this BM68 level. He is going to push forwards from the wide barrier and will look to take up the leading position. Expect him to be around the mark again but if we get a heavy track with some more rain, his chances will likely improve. Think DYERVILLE should run a good race here but I’m willing to risk him at the shorter price as this is a step up for him now coming off the win at Hamilton. He will push forwards and be in the front half which should help but want a bit of a better price before backing him. ORBITAL EXPRESS is an interesting runner, this is a bit of a drop in grade for her in his recent races back in NSW and the 1500m will suit her. A heavy track will be a big positive as well if it gets to that.

Race 5

8- EXTRA MILE (EW/VALUE OF DAY)

2- PICARGO

4- METRO LEGEND

We see quite a few of these runners come up against each other again as they continually meet in similar races. I feel that the winner will come out of the one of these 3 runners who finished in the top 3 together in a very similar race a fortnight ago. Im giving the rougher runner of the 3, EXTRA MILE a big chance today to improve. With Sheriden Tomlinson’s 3kg claim, he will go around with only 51kgs on his back which may prove to be a big advantage, as will him getting on to the course proper here at Morphettville which gives him a good opportunity to make a run at them late. A heavy track is a big positive as well as his record on the heavy is a super 4:2-1-0. PICARGO & METRO LEGEND both profile very similar and have met each other multiple times now. Both will likely race up close to the speed and are well placed in this grade

Race 6

5- FERAGO

7- DIXIE WHISTLER

1- KHOEKHOE

FERAGO was 3rd last start behing KHOEKHOE but I like his chances to flip that result here today now that they rise to the 2500m and FERAGO has won 2/2 times he has gone out to the 2500m trip. 3rd up now today and has a win on his record when 3rd up previously. Looks placed well here on the wet track as well. DIXIE WHISTLER continues to run good races this prep and is coming off a last start win. She has never won over this trip in 7 starts but has run 2nd in 5 of those races. She should get a good run up on the speed from barrier 3 and is going well. As stated before KHOEKHOE did defeat FERAGO 2 starts ago and is a good staying type who rates well in this field so expect him to run well, but he isn’t proven over a 2500m trip so that is the query with the big weight.

Race 7

1- DECLARED (BEST OF DAY)

10- QUEEN IN THE NORTH

9- FLORAL OASIS

DECLARED has had a small freshen up since he won 2 in a row back in April/May. He has recently had a trial where he looked good in winning that as well. Think he is well placed to run a good race given he gets suitable soft track conditions and has never missed the placings in 3 runs here on the Morphettville track. Looks hard to beat with Sophie Logan’s 2kg claim a good help. QUEEN IN THE NORTH finally got the breakthrough last start to win her 1st race. She put a good gap on the field when winning and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her go on with it now and especially considering that she will carry a light 51kgs after the apprentice claim here. FLORAL OASIS could be an improver here today back at a distance where she has had her only career win at. The wide barrier is tricky but if she can navigate that with some early speed she may land in a good position.

Race 8

5- BIG SHAQ

13 SHEZ BETTY

3- COLD CASE

Thought this was definitely the most open race of the day. SHEZ BETTY wouldn’t surprise at a decent price light at the weights and over a track/distance she has been consistent at (4:0-2-1) while she doesnt win often she has been around the mark recently and will appreciate the bigger Morphettville track. Both of BIG SHAQ’s career wins have come on heavy rated tracks, so he is one to keep an eye on with the conditions. He did win in impressive fashion last start so may be able to go on with it now. COLD CASE is a last start winner and was met with some good support that day as well. He will look to push forwards and looks every chance to find a good run from barrier 2 and may be best placed here depending on how the track is playing.

Race 9

13- MALINONG CLUB

12- SEA OF SECRETS

7- EXALTED RUTH

Thought MALINONG CLUB was a bit underwhelming last start when she took a little while to wind up, but forgiving her for that run and she is now 3rd up into her prep. She has won 2 of 3 3rd up runs in her career, expect her to improve off the last start now considering she gets a good drop in the weights and will only carry the minimum here today and has won 2/2 on a heavy track. SEA OF SECRETS has won 2 in a row now and deserves to come back to the city and have a crack at some stronger type races. He has a good record on a heavy track so rain will improve his chances and looks a good EW price for a runner who is in career best form. EXALTED RUTH ran a strong 2nd last time out in a good field and wouldnt be surprised to see her go one better her today now rising to a 1800m trip which is more suitable for her.
