Morphettville, Saturday, 3/6
Conditions - SOFT
Race 1
2- BOLTED IN
3- MILLIONDOLLARMUMMA
1- WIGGUM
Handy little 2YO race to kick off today’s meeting. BOLTED IN was backed strongly on debut and then competed at Group3 level next and wasn’t that far away from the winners considering he didn’t get the best of luck through that run. Really like the form out of that race as it was a pretty handy 2YO Group level race. MILLIONDOLLARMUMMA comes across from Victoria having won her debut at Cranbourne a few weeks ago now. She pushed forwards and put herself in a good position and never looked too troubled. Like the fact she will likely lead this race from a low barrier and with some natural improvement she will be a big chance here on the parks track. WIGGUM won his debut on the Ballarat Synthetic track in good fashion running a fast time there. He looks a good talent as he was a bit green in that maiden race, so if he can improve expecting he will also be around the mark.
Race 2
2- CASHIN’ CHEX
5- PUDDING
1- OH MO
CASHIN’ CHEX ran well last start when he was on debut for the new stable. He was finishing off strongly late having endured a tough run earlier. His record here on the parks is good (4:2-0-1) and if he brings the same form as his last run he should be strongly in the mix. PUDDING is the short price fave and maps to get a beautiful run up on the speed which is well suited to this track. He goes well here on the Morphettville Parks track having won 3 of his 6 career runs on this track, expecting he will be hard to beat but he is getting quite short in the market now which feels like the risk. OH MO backs up this weekend having run a big race last Saturday at Murray Bridge. He made up a lot of ground late and now 3rd up and fitter he looks like he is nearly ready to peak this prep, he will settle back in the field which is the risk on him as he may need luck.
Race 3
5- RODEO
3- HOWL
2- GAZE GRISE
RODEO resumes today and generally she has previously won well when fresh in a prep. Her 1st up record is (4:2-0-1) and she also has a super record here on the parks track (6:3-0-2) over this same track/distance, she looks prime to go here 1st up and is well placed out of barrier 3. HOWL looks the clear danger to the fave, he resumed nicely making up a lot of ground late to finish 4th only 1L off the winner. He is fitter now 2nd up and is clearly talented, but there are some risks with his get back run on style which goes against this tracks usual bias and would prefer him drawn out wider than barrier 2, but he may get the luck he needs in the small field. GAZE GRISE is another runner for David Jolly, she drops in grade and this is an easier race than any of her most recent assignments. She is much better suited in this grade and has won twice on this track previously, if she finds the right run in the straight she may be hard to hold out.
Race 4
1- STORYTELLER
3- BRISTLER
7- RUNAWAY BELLE
This is a handy Class 1 race with some of the runners in this field looking as if they may have some good upside going forwards. Have gone with STORYTELLER on top, but think he is going to need some luck in running late. He looks a really nice type having won on debut and then making up a lot of ground late chasing a handy type over this exact same track and distance. I would have preferred to see him extend to the 1200m and he will need some luck late coming from the back of the pack, but banking on him just being a shade too good for these today. BRISTLER was 3rd behind STORYTELLER when on debut here last time, he did a bit wrong in the run but still stuck on well enough. Expect he can lead them up again and with some natural improvement now 2nd up he looks every chance especially if the track looks to have a leader bias. RUNAWAY BELLE also comes from the same last start race as the other 2 runners, she made up some good ground late that day and will need luck here but with that luck she should be around the mark.
Race 5
3- AZALY
6- SILENT SURRENTE
8- MONTEPULCIANO
The shape of this race may change yet with some of these runners who are up in the market both dual nominated here and at Flemington, but as it stands I’ll be putting AZALY on top. He has won 2 in a row now including a win over this same track and trip 2 back, she is in very good form and is very well placed from barrier 2 and with a 1.5kg claim. Her win last start at Ballarat was very strong and she looks to be the one that will be hard to beat and that’s especially if she gets a soft run from a nice gate. SILENT SURRENTE is also in some very good form having also won her last 2 starts in a row. The last race she didn’t win she was 2nd behind on top selection AZALY. She has won her last 2 in very impressive fashion and is in good form, but feel she is short enough now in the market and I’m willing to risk her as this race maps to have a lot more pressure up front than what she has had to deal with in those last couple starts she won. If there is a lot of pressure up front with the race leaders, it’s going to set up perfectly for a runner like MONTEPULCIANO to swoop over the top of them from the back. He was 2nd last start behind the short price fave so if they do go too hard, expect him to be very strong late and potentially could pinch this.
Race 6
1- UPGRADE ME
4- STADIUM OF LIGHT
3- MAKE IT A DOUBLE
Pretty open race this one and it looks tricky enough. UPGRADE ME looks like he could be an improver 2nd up today for the new stable. He looks a type that will appreciate rising to the 1550m trip and has previously won 2nd up. His Queensland form was in races similar to this level so if he can find that sort of form today he looks a good improver. STADIUM OF LIGHT looks one that may find his best form getting here to the Parks track where he has previously had good success. He has a (2:1-1-0) record on this track so he will potentially be able to improve on his recent form and find his best here. MAKE IT A DOUBLE will be one to follow out of this race as he is usually better with a few runs under his belt and up over some more distance, but he looks the stand out leader of this race and if he gets it soft enough up the front, he may just run away with this.
Race 7
9- STARTS WITH HELLO
6- MIDNIGHT MASS
7- TAPINFORPAR
STARTS WITH HELLO & TAPINFORPAR both come out of the same last start race where there was only 0.8L separating the pair. Think STARTS WITH HELLO can turn the tables here today, he did get slightly held up late in the last run which wouldn’t have helped the cause, but he also has a lot more in his favour here today. He has a 3kg swing on TAPINFORPAR and will only rise 2kgs thanks to Ben Price’s 1.5kg claim while TAPINFORPAR will rise a good 5kgs for having won the last race. A softer track also looks as if it should suit STARTS WITH HELLO as well, he looks nicely placed for this race. MIDNIGHT MASS is 2nd up in Australia today and ran a good debut race for the stable when running 2nd behind an inform runner. He rises in trip today up to the 1400m and is drawn well, with the right run he wouldn’t surprise. TAPINFORPAR closes out the picks, as stated above, he is a last start winner who is in good form and he does go up in the weights now, but the recent form lines behind him are strong.
Race 8
8- BELLALIQUE
7- PAMPUNI
4- TOAST THE DEEL
Another pretty open race this one. It was hard not to be impressed by the debut win of BELLALIQUE at Gawler, he settled in about midfield and then in the straight he ran away from them and looked a class above winning by 5.5L. Expecting he can improve off that run and is well placed in this grade. PAMPUNI looks like she could be a big improver here today taking a good drop down in grade after she has been competing in some much stronger races over the Group 1 carnival. She looks much better placed in this grade today. TOAST THE DEEL has found some good form since he broke his maiden in April and has since won again and placed in some handy fields. He has good form lines coming into a race like this, but the only small knock on him is the fact he may need luck on this parks track if they do go back in the field like last start where he did get held up. If he gets a clear run at them today, expect he will be strong late.
Race 9
2- FALAISE
6- STORM HUNTER
7- SIXFOOTONE
FALAISE looks a lightly raced runner who has some good upside and is coming off a small freshen up. This race maps nicely for him as it looks like there will be a good tempo set and he will likely sit just off that at about midfield. If he can produce the finish we saw from him last time, he should be hard to hold out. STORM HUNTER resumes here today and generally runs well when he is fresh (2:1-1-0) and maps nicely from the wide barrier as Im expecting he will settle off what looks a hot tempo and he should be able to find clear running space at them late. If he doesnt get caught wide with no cover, he should be strong late. SIXFOOTONE was 6th last start but only 1L behind the winner in a pretty good field. He looks the likely leader and if he can cross from the wide barrier without much trouble, he might be favoured by the track conditions here.
