Murray Bridge, Saturday 18/6
Conditions - Soft
Race 1
1- CALYPSO REIGN (BEST OF DAY)
3- ALLEBOOM
2- STAR HILLS
CALYPSO REIGN usually finds his best here at Murray Bridge, his record is super (5:3-1-1). The track suits him as he has plenty of room to work late down the straight and should handle whatever track conditions will be here race day. ALLEBOOM tired late when resuming last start, he should take improvement from that run as he usually improves deeper into preps he gets. He likes to lead and with what looks like a lack of early speed, he may get a soft run up front and be hard to catch. Look to STAR HILLS if conditions deteriorate for race day. He has a 50% winning strike rate on a heavy surface.
Race 2
3- JOYRIDER
2- TEST THE LAW
4- ZOU SENSATION
Think JOYRIDER is a very interesting runner who looks to be a strong chance of a good run on debut. He was an $800k purchase and has been given plenty of time to be race ready and think the stable have sent him here to a very winnable race and expensive colts need to be respected on debut. TEST THE LAW has the best of the race day exposure and is the clear danger. Ran 2nd behind respected 2yo Aitch Two Oh on debut and the won well when resuming. ZOU SENSATION is a similar story to JOY RIDER, making a long journey over from Victoria to a race the stable think is very winnable, has looked a decent type at trials.
Race 3
1- KEEP READING
8- TOTALLY DISCREET
5- BAJAN BELLE
This looks a pretty open race but think KEEP READING is the best horse in the race and should be winning here. He is yet to miss a placing in his short career and has placed 2nd in both other 1st up runs in his career, likes a wet track so he looks well placed. TOTALLY DISCREET should improve for being 2nd up here today. She jumped fave in her last start but was beaten home by CALLA DREAM, gets a good weight swing on him this time though. BAJAN BELLE was strongly supported when winning on debut, this is a step up now but the debut was encouraging.
Race 4
4- CASTLE OF KINGS
8- HELLO LADIES
11- THREE TEARS
Thinking CASTLE OF KINGS can be an improver here with the booking of a senior jockey who he has had good history with. He found some trouble when well supported in his last start, the wide barrier here may be what hurts him but he has the speed to cross early. HELLO LADIES is one to keep a big eye on. There has been some big market support around him early in this market. We haven’t seen him at this track previously, but it’s one that should really suit his run on style. THREE TEARS has come 2nd in her previous 2 starts, she looks in reasonable form and capable in this. May want the track to be dryer though.
Race 5
4- LAKE’S FOLLY
3- JAAMINT
11- KUTAYHA
Found this the hardest race of the day, the speed map is key and there looks like a few that really want to get through to the front. Speed inside might get a soft lead while others are out wide. So I’ve settled on LAKE’S FOLLY who will be back in the field and coming home hard late. This is his home track and it has plenty of room in the straight for back markers to be swooping. JAAMINT is one of the expected leaders who looks like she should get a soft run from barrier 2. She has won 2 in a row and is in good form. KUTAYHA is on debut for a new stable and one at good odds who may surprise. Think this might be a drop in grade from what he was competing in at Queensland.
Race 6
4- HANABI
1- STATE OF CLASS
13- MY RUBY
HANABI has enough speed to cross from the wider barrier and be tough to catch down. She is resuming and has previous good form 1st up and has 2 trial wins prior to resuming. STATE OF CLASS drops in grade from his most recent run back in Victoria. All of his best work is on a wet track, so expect he can figure in this. MY RUBY draws barrier 3 which gives her every chance to find a soft run up on the speed. She is at the lighter end of the weights, so expecting her to be finishing off well. May want a dryer track though which is the only query.
Race 7
5- KING OF PHARAOHS (EW/VALUE OF DAY)
3- LORD BOUZERON
8- MYSTERY ISLAND
KING OF PHARAOHS has produced a pair of 2nds since he went around in The Group 1 Derby, he is on the quick back up and drops down in grade from the run last week. He goes well on a wet track, so if he can handle the back up and run up to recent form he should take care of these. LORD BOUZERON disappointed 2 starts back in The Alice Spring Cup and returned to the turf last start. Like that he he is 2nd up back on the grass now and the little break. So expecting an improvement, on his home track and favourable conditions. MYSTERY ISLAND ran well in a tougher race than this one last start. If the track gets to a heavy, I would be more keen to take him as he seems to always run well in the mud.
Race 8
7- PIMM’S PARTY
6- AGRIMONY
1- MUNSTER
Giving PIMMS’S PARTY a big chance here today to improve on her last start and turn then tables on AGRIMONY who was the winner of that race. Thought PIMM’S PARTY found some trouble in the run but still managed to find clear space late and was coming home strong. Coming to the Murray Bridge track gives her more time and space to get a clear run at them late, and will carry 2kg less than the fave today. As stated above, AGRIMONY won his last start when on debut for the new stable, thought it was and impressive win but may need more luck here from a wider barrier. MUNSTER does his best work here on his home track, he drops in class but will have to go back to carrying a heavy weight because of that.
Race 9
6- BIG SUE
9- TAVIKAT
14- HATEECH
BIG SUE won a nice race 2 starts back then produced a forgivable effort to finish 7th. That run was after a let up, so expecting he will have an improved fitness here and he links back up with Kayla Crowther and the pair have never missed a placing together. Considered TAVIKAT as the on top selection, but keep coming back to the fact that he has a horrible barrier and will have a lot of extra work to do early to find a good position. Dropped in grade last start to find a win and some form, prior to that he contested at Listed level and that race has now become quite a strong form race. HATEECH has come back this prep in super form, including a win here at the track 2 starts back. Draws a soft barrier and may get the softest run of anyone.
