Conditions - Soft
Race 1
1- TEST THE LAW
7- KLABEL
3- TAPINFORPAR
KLABEL was super impressive when winning his most recent trial by a good margin and debuts here today. No doubt if he can run up to that he will be hard to beat, but preferring to put a horse who has race day experience on top. TEST THE LAW was disappointing when a short price fave last start, but form prior to that is strong. TAPINFORPAR ran on well when on debut, should take improvement from that debut run.
Race 2
2- ALLEBOOM
1- SHAMINO
5- LITCHFIELD COUNTY
Super open race this and a small field. ALLEBOOM gets his chance here 3rd up. He is 2/2 wins when previously 3rd up, so peaking in fitness and like the apprentice claim which brings him down to a weight much lower than he has carried of late. SHAMINO placed last start in a much stronger race and drops in grade from recent runs, he usually runs well here having won 2 from 3 starts at the track. LITCHFIELD COUNTY debuts for a new stable, his Victorian form is around some very strong sprinters, so may stack up against these.
Race 3
5- BEA TEMPTED
7- PLATFORM
4- LAKES FOLLY
BEA TEMPTED ran well when resuming at Flemington and now drops back in grade here and rises to a more suitable distance. She usually runs well over this trip and when 2nd up so looks a strong chance. PLATFORM is only lightly raced but has showed that he can handle the staying trip. Likes to race on speed and should get a soft run there from barrier 3, his chances improve the wetter the conditions are. LAKES FOLLY looks a strong hope at his home track and on a soft track. Rising to the 1800m suits.
Race 4
5- AROUND THE HORN
1- SO SAY ANGEL
3- SHORT STORIES
Tough race and not one that I’m super keen to get involved in. Have gone with AROUND THE HORN as the on top selection, based on he looks decent value. Haven’t seen him since December when he ran last here but suggest he may have had a issue that day. The fact the stable has persisted with him is encouraging. SO SAY ANGEL is always around the mark and has been placing recently in stronger races, her best is good enough but she hasn’t won for a while now. SHORT STORIES drops in class from his last start 2nd in Mount Gambier, should be competitive at this level.
Race 5
14- FREE OF SIN
1- YURI ROYALE
3- SAWETO HAZE
Another tough, open race this one. FREE OF SIN is a runner with a low winning strike rate, but she could be a big improver in this. She has shown to prefer wet ground but the fact she will carry a super low weight may give her the chance. YURI ROYALE is the current fave, he is resuming and is a proven runner fresh. He may produce here but I prefer him over some more ground later in this prep. SAWETO HAZE looks the likely runner who will put the speed into the race. If he gets it too soft up front he can potentially steal this from them.
Race 6
1- KARACASU
4- QUEMAN
6- LEGLESS LADY
Hard to look past KARACASU here. Would have him as best of the day but he doesn’t quite have the value we are after for a bet. He was strong here winning 2 starts back and then last start home 3rd at Flemington behind a very smart pair. This is much easier. QUEMAN was 2nd behind KARACASU here last start, his recent form has been strong winning 2 and 2nd in 2. Expect he will be competitive again. LEGLESS LADY is another with strong recent form having won her past 2. Steps up in grade today but loves a soft surface.
Race 7
10- ZOULAH
2- JAAMINT
4- CONFIDANT
ZOULAH comes into this 2nd up, she finished her last prep in a much tougher grade so rates well for this and from barrier 2 she should get the soft run on the speed. Can make a case to forgive JAAMINT for her last start 6th where she was found to be lame after. The form prior to that run is good enough for something like this. Soft ground will suit her. CONFIDANT debuts for a new stable here today, his form in Queensland has been in a grade above this and he has competed well at that level. He has previous out good performances in when 1st up into a prep.
Race 8
1- LORD BOUZERON
12- PERFECT ILLUSION
11- AZZUREOUS
LORD BOUZERON only just missed when out at this distance last start, he is definitely proven out at this distance and a win looks close. He should get a soft run from his barrier which should help him manage the heavier weight. The stable of PERFECT ILLUSION have been giving him time and building him up slowly to a staying trip, he should be peaking in fitness by now and the trip looks suitable after what he showed last start. Has had some big market support which is interesting. AZZUREOUS has never missed the quinella when going over this track/trip, like the track and looks a threat.
Race 9
10- SET TO PROPHET (BEST OF DAY)
2- BLOOD SWEAT TEARS
7- UNLACED
Victorian raider SET TO PROPHET comes across the border looking for a suitable race. He will go over the 1600m for the first time and that rise in distance should really suit him. Also think the bigger Murray Bridge track will really suit his running pattern. BLOOD SWEAT TEARS is dropping in grade from his last start run, won the race prior to that in this grade but this is the 1st time we have seen him out over the mile trip. UNLACED does his best work over the 1600m as 4 of his 6 career wins have come over this trip. On his home track and in wet conditions should suit.
Race 10
4- DAUNTING MAGIC (EW/VALUE OF DAY)
13- GLOVED
6- OAKFIELD GERONIMO
Another open race to close off todays card, at time of writing there was 2 faves and they were at $7.50 each so that tells you just how tough it is. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of early speed in the race apart from DAUNTING MAGIC, if that proves to be the case he should get a soft run even from the wide-ish barrier. GLOVED & OAKFIELD GERONIMO are the current race faves. GLOVED has looked good since joining the new stable, she is down in grade and draws a soft barrier. OAKFIELD GERONIMO has threatened to win a race like this recently having finished 2nd in his past 2 runs. Small question mark how he goes on a wet track.
