Murray Bridge, Saturday 27/5

Conditions - Soft

Race 1

13- WALK LIKE AN ANGEL

3- KALASEC

1- GETABLE

A 2yo maiden here to kick off the meeting today, tricky for form lines as we are looking at young horses and horses on debut. Putting WALK LIKE AN ANGEL on top for today based on what she has showed in her trials before this debut run. She has been travelling well through the line in the trials and not asked for much. Jason Holder sticks with her here and she has had good market support which is a good sign. KALASEC looks the best of the runners who have race experience. He was 2nd here at the track last start behind a runner who looks a smart type, previous to that he was contesting some stronger 2YO races than what he finds himself in here today. GETABLE is another on debut here today who has showed good talent at the trials and in particularly his last start at Stawell where he put a good gap on the field. looks ready for a strong debut.

Race 2

7- WALLY WEST

4- DELCREDERE

8- IMITATOR

This isn’t an overly strong race which is going to give WALLY WEST his best chance to break his maiden after having come close in both of his runs this prep. He has had very good support in both of those runs and is again well in the market. His best chance today for a win. DELCREDERE showed the talent he may possess when he made up good ground on a tough track when on debut. Since then he has encountered some back luck in runs but should appreciate this bigger track and may be a big improver at a nice price with the right run. IMITATOR ran a nice run on debut to finish 3rd. He raced greenly but may be an improver having had that first day at the races now.

Race 3

1- CANFORD

4- DIXIE WHISTLER

2- VERIMLI

CANFORD should start to find his peak form this prep now having got 4 runs under his belt. He didnt really figure last start when over the 2000m, but I’m willing to forgive that run as he is a type that appreciates some more ground and the 2500m at Murray Bridge suits. 2 starts back he was 5L off the winners at Listed level when out over this same trip. DIXIE WHISTLER is light in at the weights and generally runs really well over a 2500m trip. She is 2:0-2-0 over this track/distance and maps to be one of the controlling runners in the race. If she gets it soft up front I’m expecting she will be tough to catch. VERMILI looks a type that will win a race like this soon. His form back in Victoria last year was at a much stronger level than this and if he gets it all right on the day, he wouldn’t surprise.

Race 4

2- EAGLELOU

3- SANTELMO FUEGO

4- WHISKEY N WOMEN

EAGLELOU has had a small freshen up since running 3rd behind the red hot SILENT SURRENTE who has since gone on to win in impressive fashion up in grade. EAGLELOU has a big finish and is well suited here at the big Murray Bridge track where he has a 3:1-2-0 record. He is in good form and well suited, will be every chance. SANTELMO FUEGO produced a huge run last start to win well at Morphettville when going up in grade. He is back down is grade here today in what looks an easier level race. If he can produce a repeat performance here today, he should again be hard to get past. WHISKEY N WOMEN is a last start winner and comes up in grade now, while this is a slightly tougher race than the last start, he has been around the mark in tougher races at Morphettville this prep and is well suited at Murray Bridge.

Race 5

6- STORYTELLER

1- HOPE AT HAND

2- KLABEL

This is a very open race with some very nice types who have a lot of upside, but I‘m keen to be with the lightly raced STORYTELLER. STORYTELLER won his debut at Oakbank making up some good ground late and then came to Morphettville and ran 2nd 0.5L behind the highly rated SGHIRRIPA, STORYTELLER ran the fastest closing sectionals for the day. He goes up to the 1200m today which is going to be extremely suitable and especially here on the bigger track. HOPE AT HAND takes a big drop in grade today back to BM70 level having last competed in the Group 2 Tobin Bronze and the Listed Redelva Stakes. She ran into some back luck in both of those runs but still finished off strongly, including finishing only 3.2L off Royal Merchant who has come out to win the G1 Goodwood. Strong form lines to follow and she will be well suited on this track. KLABEL beat home HOPE AT HAND in the Tobin Bronze so does have those same strong form lines but the small query I have on him is that he will race up on the speed where there looks like there may be a lot of pressure up the front, so I’m favouring runners who will settle back in running but wouldn’t be surprised to see KLABEL win this based on recent efforts.

Race 6

13- PONTEDERA

7- OUTBACK ACTION

4- KEEP READING

Short price fave OUTBACK ACTION looks like he should be hard to beat here today, he was an impressive winner last start at Mornington and never gave anything else a chance in the race. While he should be hard to beat, I’m not super keen on the price so I am more inclined to back PONTEDERA at a bit of a better price. PONTEDERA has run 3 good races this prep including a win and 2 2nds. He will only carry 53.5kgs after Ben Price’s claim and is a previous winner over this track/trip. He looks very well placed and the best chance of upsetting the short price fave. KEEP READING hasn’t had any real luck with barrier draws of late and has again drawn out wide, he had to work hard from the wide barrier last start but was still only 1.7L behind the winner there. He goes up to the 1200m which suits as he has won 2/3 starts over the 1200m trips.

Race 7

16- SECOND TO NUN

4- CLAMARC

8- GOLDEN AGE

Open and tough race this one in a big field. SECOND TO NUN produced a big run last start at Morphettville when she finished 4th after settling dead last and then making up some serious ground late. That was over the 1050m here and she is another that will appreciate going up to the 1200m on the bigger track here today, she does have a wider barrier which means she may need some luck as this is currently a full field, but look for her to be producing her best late. CLAMARC was impressive when winning last start coming off a big spell. He will be an improver for being 2nd up and fitter now, but has drawn out in a shocking barrier which I feel will hurt his chances. Even with the long run in at Murray Bridge, he has a lot of work to do to cross the field. GOLDEN AGE is an intriguing horse who makes his debut for the Sue Murphy stable and is an ex team Hawkes runner. His recent form and trials suggests he will likely push forwards and should get a soft run which may be a big advantage in this full field.

Race 8

4- SILVER ON RED (VALUE OF DAY)

1- CELSIUS STAR

3- THE BIG EASY

SILVER ON RED looks massive value here today coming down in grade from the races he has been competing in this prep. He is down to a BM68 grade after running 1.8L behind QUEMAN who has gone on to win again and frank the form. SILVER ON RED goes well here at Murray Bridge boasting a strong 6:2-2-1 record over this track/trip, it gives him a huge chance to produce the big finish. CELSIUS STAR’S recent form is hard to knock given he has now won 3 races straight. He is getting up there in the weights now for this grade but winning form is good form and he is hard to knock. THE BIG EASY makes his debut for the Clarken/O’Shea stable after he had previously been with the Maher & Eustace team. This race should be an easier level than what he had been contesting back in NSW but he was a few lengths off them in that grade so think he is one to watch today and follow out of this race going forwards.

Race 9

6- PLATINUM WOLF (BEST OF DAY)

7- TAPINFORPAR

3- COPPERFIELD

PLATINUM WOLF is the best bet of today. He was super last start at Morpettville Parks when he got way too far back in the running but made up some super ground late to only go down by 1.7L. He is much better suited here today on the Murray Bridge track where he has won 2/2 starts. He looks a type with some good upside and should be able to account for this field if he runs up to what his potential is. TAPINFORPAR is a last start winner who did defeat PLATINUM WOLF in that last start. It was a good strong win but he goes well up in the weights compared to that last start which might bring him back to the field a little on a soft track. COPPERFIELD is a Victorian visitor who will likely roll forward and will take up the speed here, he has never missed a placing over the 1400m starts and will appreciate a really wet track if it gets to that here today.
