Conditions - Heavy

Race 1

1- CUSACK (EW/VALUE OF DAY)

3- WINNING REVOLUTION

4- EROS

CUSACK is a very interesting one at a price to keep an eye on. After winning his debut, he went up to contest The Gold Coast Magic Millions. He ran last in that but maybe there was an issue. He has trialled well prior to resuming here and the stable must have an opinion of him if they did send him up to that rich race. Have really liked what WINNING REVOLUTION has done only early into his racing career. Just got beat on debut by a very good Adelaide horse and then won 2nd up beating home the fave from this race. Not too concerned about the wide barrier as the hillside track provides the chute start so he has plenty of time to get across them. EROS has contested against good company every start in his career. Hasn’t missed the placings in his 3 career runs, and only just missed to WINNING REVOLUTION last start, 2nd up here so may be fitter and be stronger late here today.

Race 2

5- STARRY LEGEND

3- ASHFORD STREET

6- THE GAUCH

Lot of clashing form lines in this. Pretty keen on STARRY LEGEND, he went around as fave last start at Caulfield where he was 2nd behind ASHFORD STREET. Thinking he can flip the result here today. Mostly due to the fact he rises 1kg in weight. While ASHFORD STRRET comes up a huge 5kgs and will carrier a heavier weight than STARRY LEGEND in this. STARRY LEGEND also is 2/2 over this track/distance. THE GAUCH is a very handy runner. He is is proven 1st up so may produce a strong performance here, but think his better form is usually 2nd & 3rd up so he is one to watch going forwards this prep.

Race 3

3- PARISIAN DANCER

2- MILTIDA

1- RUSUTSU

PARISIAN DANCER looks the one who will appreciate the heavy ground more than any other runner here today. Her record on a heavy track is huge (3:3-0-0) and she goes well 2nd up and over the 1600m. MILTIDA was super last start after being made to work wide. How she finished that off suggests that she won’t have many issues stepping up to the 1600m here today. Her first look at a heavy track but she has appreciated soft conditions previously. RUSUTSU is a big chance to be an improver now having her 2nd up run in Australia. She finished off strongly in her Aus debut so the rise to 1600m looks suitable.

Race 4

3- STAR OF CHAOS (BEST OF DAY)

10- NAVAL SEAL

2- HOPON HARRY

Thought STAR OF CHAOS’ last start win here at the track was huge. She was at good odds and beat the field by 7L. This is harder, but she gets very similar conditions, like her to go well again at the track. NAVAL SEAL should appreciate the heavy conditions (4:1-1-1) on the surface. He ran into the placings last start after winning his maiden behind HOPON HARRY. SEAL meets HARRY here better in the weights and is proven in the conditions so should be able to flip that result here today. Really liked HOPON HARRY’S win at Caulfield last start. His recent form has been strong but the only query I have on him here today is he isn’t proven on a heavy track.

Race 5

3- UNUSUAL CULTURE

2- KIR ROYLE

1- ADELE AMOUR

UNUSUAL CULTURE is on her Australian debut here today after starting her career nicely in NZ. She looked good when winning a recent trial and it’s likely she handles the heavy going. KIR ROYALE won her last start in a very similar race to this. She is a consistent type and won has won 3rd up previously. She doesn’t take on much weight after that win which should help her late. ADELE AMOUR has been super in recent times winning races tougher than this above her rating. Drops to a lower grade here today and she has to carry a much bigger weight than she would have been used to of late. That’s the only query.

Race 6

1- MONBAHER

15- TEOFILO STAR

3- GATE CRASH

MONBAHER has looked good in both of his Australian runs since he was imported. He has proven himself over a staying distance and on a heavy surface. Looks really well placed here today. TEOFILO STAR won nicely in his last start when he just sat behind the leader and took off late. That race was over this same trip so he should be suited here. GATE CRASH rises in grade after back to back wins recently. He will rise in trip here for the first time as well but nothing suggests he won’t be capable of seeing it out. Has a good record on this track and a win on a heavy. Should go well.

Race 7

3- VISINARI

16- VITRUVIUS

4- FALLS

VISINARI was a good winner here at this track 2 starts back and has had a very solid prep to date. 2nd last start in a stronger race than this but he definitely battled as we was made to work out wide. Should be easily good enough for this field if he can find the right run. VITRUVIUS was a big improver in his last start when he came onto a heavy track. Didn’t get the easiest of runs so it was an impressive win. The form around some of his recent runs is strong so he could be capable here. FALLS is one who really appreciates a heavy surface, his record on a wet track is 5:2-2-0 so these conditions won’t be a problem for him. He has multiple wins at this track and over this distance so may be a big improver.

Race 8

11- SIG POSITANO

2- ASCENSION

7- SIR KALAHAD

SIG POSITANO has been over due a win this prep, he has produced some nice runs but hasn’t managed to breakthrough since November. Back on to a heavy track here may be a big factor in him finding his best again as he has had previous success in these conditions. ASCENSION is an interesting runner and may be one to follow out of this race depending on what we see. He is on his Australian debut and was going around at a good level in The UK prior to arriving here. His form suggests he will handle these track conditions with out many worries. SIR KALAHAD is one at a decent price that may run a race. He does all of his best work on heavy tracks. The wetter the better for him and he may surprise.

Race 9

2- GRAND PROMENADE

7- DEGRAVES

10- ROYAL MILE

Really nice race to finish here today. Have some handy stayers resuming including GRAND PROMENADE who was super to finish 6th in The Melbourne Cup. He has some class about him and resuming at the 1800m looks perfect. DEGRAVES is another resuming runner, he usually does his best work later into preps when he starts to get out over a further distance but did win 1st up last prep. The wet conditions expected today really suit him well. ROYAL MILE is interesting, hard to gauge how his recent form stacks up against some of these as he is dropping in grade after good runs at Group and Listed level in SA but potentially he finds himself in a stronger field. The wet conditions suit and he is very light in the weights which should help late.
