Wednesday Best Bets

Sandown

R1/1- DO YOU RECKON (EW/VALUE)

  • Has good early speed and expect he can find a position somewhere close to the lead and be prominent. He does have a wider barrier, but the race doesn’t seem to have much other early speed, so if he jumps clean, think the barrier won’t matter. Has a 50% winning strike rate on a heavy track and the face has no wins on a wet track.

R5/11- MASK UP

  • Has showed good form in his lightly raced career. Beat an in form runner at Morphettville 2 runs back before admirable runs at Flemington next 2 starts. I like that he has had a few weeks to freshen up as he unusually runs well fresh. A wet track should suit and he should get a favourable run from an inside barrier.

R8/4- COOLTH (BEST OF DAY)

  • Dropping in grade from his first few runs this prep and comes into this after a bit of a freshen up. Reports were that he was flying prior to resuming in April. Expecting he can produce some of that form here down in grade and on a wet track having been proven to prefer the sting out of the ground.

Balaklava

R3/12- LADIES LUNCH (EW/VALUE)

  • Represents a good EW price if she can show some improvement here. Put herself in a winning position when on debut but faded and then don’t think she got many favours last start from a wider barrier. Drawn back towards the inside and will carry a light weight so that should help her be finishing this off strongly.

R4/7- PEACEMAKER

  • Another very open maiden level race and a runner with good value. He is on debut for a new stable here today after arriving from one of the countries biggest stable who did seem to put a lot of early work into him. The recent trial at Murray Bridge he ran one of the better times of the day. The race looks like there will be a lot of early speed, which could set him off to nab them late from the back of the field.

R7/6- MY KHALIFA

  • Looks a big chance to improve 2nd up here. Rising in distance now that he is fitter for being 2nd up and a senior jockey has been booked for the ride. Wet track conditions should suit and his only career win has come at this track. Another race where early speed is drawn outside. So if they go too hard early, it will give runners that have settled mid-back every chance here.
